In the sailing world, Boxing Day or December 26th marks the start of one of the toughest navigation regattas in the world – Rolex Sydney to Hobart race, celebrating its 70th edition this year. The course is 628 nautical miles long and very demanding.
The Barcolana regatta is the largest and the most visited sailing regatta in the Mediterranean. It was first held in 1969 in front of Trieste. This year’s edition starts on October 4th and ends on October 12th. A variety of races guarantees a great time for everyone.
Winning the Louis Vuitton Cup in terms of top performance sailing means that the winner takes the honor to challenge the defender of previous America’s Cup. Emirates Team New Zealand won this Cup second consecutive time beating Italy’s Luna Rosa Challenge by 7 to one wins. The same competitors have met also in the finals of previous Louis Vuitton Cup held in 2007.
My friends and I participated in the very first regatta of 2016 in Croatia. The race took place in the town of Biograd. Due to bad weather, only a handful of other participants appeared, but we had great fun nevertheless. Read about our adventure!

The history of Volvo Ocean Race is full of dramatic stories about thrilling competition between teams, struggle with heavy weather and heroic salvages. This year, the Volvo Ocean Race started in Alicante, Spain on October 6th.
Rota Palagruzona or the Route of Palagruža first took place on June 12th 1593. A typical fishing boat at that time was gajeta falkuša, a traditional Adriatic wooden boat powered by both sails and pedals. Thanks to a few tradition lovers and enthusiasts the route has been revitalized.
