Location and climate
Rogoznica is a town and a port in the Central Dalmatia, situated in a
secluded bay.
With special climate characteristics it differs from the Sibenik region,
to which it belongs - it has a mixture of the warmer climate from the
southeast and more severe climate from the north. The average winter
temperature, in January, amounts to 7 °C, whereas in summer, July and
August, it amounts to 25 °C.
History and sights
Rogoznica area has been inhabited since the prehistory, through
the Middle Ages, even to nowadays. It is also considered that this area
used to be the Greek colony called Heraclea.
The first inhabitants settled the mainland part of Rogoznica at the end
of the 14th century, and the islet, later connected with the mainland by
a causeway, was inhabited when they fled from the Turks.
Mixture of cultures and civilizations through centuries resulted with
numerous monuments in this area, and the Mediterranean spirit can
be felt at every step.
Numerous monuments witness the island tradition and life. The most
significant are: the church of the Assumption of the Blessed
Virgin Mary from the 18th century and the church of St. Nicholas from
the Middle Ages. We should also mention the Church of St. John of
Trogir, built in the 14th century on the Ploce promontory and the parish
church from the 17th century, as well as the fortress above the
town from the year 1809 built during the Napoleon wars.
Today
Nowadays, Rogoznica is a typical Mediterranean tourist destination and
the inhabitants are engaged in fishing, agriculture and tourism. Due to
its image of a quiet Mediterranean town, Rogoznica offers its inhabitants
and visitors peace and quite holidays.

There is a salt lake Zmajevo oko (Dragon’s eye), close to the modern marina
Frapa, and it is associated with many legends. It is assumed that the lake is of meteor origin, due to its very
regular shape.
How to arrive?
By plane
If arriving by plane, you can choose the Split airport, that is 28 km
away from Rogoznica. From there you can reach Rogoznica either by
bus or taxi, but it is also possible to organize transfer to the marina.
By car or bus
If arriving by car, you can travel via Trieste, Rijeka, and then use the
Adriatic highway toward Zadar and Sibenik, if you prefer to travel along
the coast. Or you can use the highway when you reach Rijeka or the
junction Zuta Lokva near the town Senj, about 60 km south of Rijeka,
and continue driving toward Split.
If you are arriving from the direction of north, you can either use the
old route Zagreb - Karlovac - Gracac - Knin - Sibenik - Rogoznica or the
highway Zagreb - Split.
By ship
If traveling by ship, you can use some of the ferry services from
Rijeka or Dubrovnik toward Split, or international ferry or fast lines from
Italy (Ancona, Civitanova, Giulianova, Pescara, Bari). From Split, you
can reach Rogoznica either by bus or taxi.
