Catamarans
are a very popular charter option due to their
great stability, amount of space they provide and significant
safety. A catamaran is a type of boat consisting of
two hulls joined by a frame. They can be sail- or engine-powered.
Catamarans have two engines, one in each hull.
Catamarans were "invented" by an aristocratic fishing community
in the southern coast of Tamil Nadu, India. However, in terms of
leisure and sport sailing, catamarans are a fairly recent fashion.
To become a now popular vessel, this type of sailing boat had to
"survive" some strong skepticism from more tradition-oriented
sailors.
Catamaran charters have become very popular due to several
important characteristics. Charter catamarans are much safer than
monohulls. They virtually cannot be sunk. Because of the great
buoyancy it has, the entire boat acts as sort of a raft. Catamarans
have great maneuverability since most catamarans have twin
engines they are far easier to dock than a single engine monohull.
Modern catamarans can do a 360 turn in their own length. Although
monohulls have certain advantages when anchoring in marinas,
catamarans can anchor in very shallow bays, often very close to a
beach (think a few feet). When you charter a catamaran you get more
space than you will get with a normal sailboat. After all, cabins,
heads and lounging areas are spread over two hull. Also, there is
more deck space and a catamaran's cockpit is twice
as large as a monohull's one. More space enables more privacy.
Catamarans have also become a favorite charter option due to
their great stability. Sailing is done at a level
since catamarans rarely heel. When they do, they do it at 5 degrees
at the most, while monohull sailboats usually do it at 25 degrees.
Sure, heeling at 25 degrees can be exciting but it is also very
tiring. When sailing a catamaran, you can walk, sit, eat, drink...
Whatever you want. However, the most important advantage of level
sailing is that there is less possibility of getting sea
sick.
Choose the catamaran charter and enjoy sailing with more
privacy, stability, speed, and safety.
