Spain is one of the premier
sailing destinations in Europe with more than 200 sailing harbors
along both its Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts. Popular sailing
destinations in Spain include the Costa Brava and the Balearic
Islands. Some of the best yacht charter bases in Spain
are:
Club de
Mar
Club de Mar marina is one of most
famous marinas and yacht charter bases in Mallorca. It is located
just a short walk from the city of Palma center and all the shops,
bars and restaurants. However, the port itself though also has
shops, bars, restaurants and supermarkets.
Palma de Mallorca is the capital
of the Balearic Islands, one of the most popular yacht charter
destination in the Mediterranean. Palma de Mallorca features a
mixture of old and modern and is a shoppers paradise. It is divided
in to a many areas, but the most important ones are: The Old Town
and the historical center, Jaime III the shopping area, The Avenues
and Plaza Spain, La Lonja, next to the old town, and The Paseo
Maritimo, Promenade.
Benalmadena
Marina
The British magazine
"International Property" voted Benalmadena Marina "Best Marina in
The World" twice, in 1995 and 1998. Benalmadena is a large tourist
town with all the facilities and entertainment normally expected
for a tourist center. The yacht charter base encompasses a large
commercial center with supermarkets, bars, restaurants and
boutiques. However, these are all rather expensive, and a trip to
the town would be a more sensible option in terms of both shopping
and entertainment. The marina belongs to a huge residential
development which is located in the inner harbor area.
This yacht charter is well
connected to the Malaga Airport with a motorway, and provides a
good starting base for exploring Andalucia with Seville, Jerez, and
Grenada within an easy drive. So, if you want to sail in Spain and
explore its inland Banalmadena is a good starting
point.
If golf is your thing then this is
the place to be with dozens are courses to choose from all within a
short drive of the marina. If all this sounds to exhausting then
there are miles of beautiful beaches just a walk away.
Aguadulce
Marina
Aguadulce is located just 4 miles
from the city of Almeria. This is a very large marina with modern
facilities and good prices. There are two golf courses close by
whereas the town offers many bars and restaurants, shops,
supermarkets, banks, and a post office, all close to the
marina.
The yacht charter base features a
very good yacht club with bar, squash court, swimming pool, and a
gym. Repair and boatyard facilities are also offered. The marina is
an excellent place to lift a yacht over winter.
Aguadulce is well connected by
road and rail with a local airport on the outskirts of Almeria. The
town of Almeria is well worth a visit because of its Moorish
castle, Alcazaba. Day trips to local villages scattered over the
valleys of the Sierra Nevada that rises behind the town are
recommended and will be an interesting addition to your sailing
holidays.. Car hire can be found in the town.
Sant Feliu de
Guixols Marina
Sant Feliu de Guixols is one of
the most popular yacht charter destinations on the Costa Brava
coast. This commercial port also houses a fishing fleet as well as
the marina. The town features various bars and restaurants and a
good shopping center including supermarkets. The tree lined
promenade is popular with both tourists and locals. There are also
several excellent beaches.
The Plaza de Espana hosts the fresh food market. There is also a
local open air market in the town center every Sunday. The main
sight is the 17th century St Benedict Arch in the main plaza. The
local bullring is one of the most famous in Spain. For all of this
you do not have to worry what to do when not on your charter
yacht.
The coast is dotted with charming anchorages which make the region
a great destination for yachts. Barcelona airport is about an hours
drive to the south.
Puerto de
Mazagon Marina
Puerto de Mazagon marina is a
large marina that has been awarded the Blue Flag for Marina and is
situated at the entrance to the Rio Odiel, the major river leading
up to the Spanish commercial port of Huelva. The yacht charter base
offers good facilities and shelter. There is also a mini market in
the marina while more shops can be found in the town about a 10
minute walk away.
Mazagon is a tourist resort famous
for its long clean beaches that are not to be missed when sailing
in Spain. Since it is very close to Palos de la Frontera and La
Rábida monastery, the town is a good base for exploring Columbus's
legacy. The Parque Nacional Coto de Donana is also easily
accessible, as Mazagón is 25km from El Acebuche, the nearest entry
point for the park.
