Gulets For Charter
What is a gulet - definition?
Imagine sailing the Mediterranean in a boat that has a Pirates of the Caribbean exterior and a 5-star hotel interior. If you charter a gulet, that’s what you’ll get. The definition of a gulet is a simple one. It is a two-masted or three-masted wooden sailing vessel that has its origins in beautiful Turkey, more precisely in the cities of Bodrum and Marmaris. The word gulet originates from the Italian word goletta which means schooner, which is a synonym for a sailing ship.
Today, gulets have found their place in nautical tourism and are popular as excursion boats, but that wasn’t their original purpose. In fact, their history is an interesting one. In the past, they were used as freight vessels in sea trading in the Black Sea, as well as fishing vessels in the Adriatic. The production of gulets has culminated in the 1970s and these wooden vessels have become a symbol for sailing tourism in Turkey. Today’s gulets are built using the traditional plank-on-frame method, with improvements in terms of sturdiness and interior design. Modern gulets have all sorts of luxury add-ons, such as jacuzzis, flat-screen TVs or private bathrooms.
Why charter a gulet?
Chartering a gulet is a great choice if you’re spending your sailing holidays with a group of friends or family. Since it’s a perfect vessel for sailing in large groups, it can be used for all kinds of social gatherings, like birthday celebrations and weddings, or going on excursions. A gulet can ideally accommodate 10-15 people but is capable of much more.
The biggest ones can fit up to 50 people! The spaciousness of a gulet will make sailing extremely comfortable and safe and even though you will share it with a larger number of people, you won’t feel like the boat is cramped. The main advantage of chartering a gulet is that it comes fully crewed. The main service includes a cook and a skipper, but there are also lots of additional services. Since there is always someone on board, gulets are frequently taken care of and are thus in great condition. You can enjoy a relaxing holiday and have everything tailored to your needs and desires, without having to worry about cleaning, cooking or navigating.
Another advantage is the price. If you are looking for an affordable sailing option, chartering a gulet will save you some money. You can either charter an entire gulet or a single cabin. Chartering a cabin is ideal if you are sailing solo or with your partner. This might seem like a more affordable option than chartering a private gulet, but keep in mind that the larger the group, the less expensive the charter is per person. Apart from being extremely luxurious and spacious, gulets are also very comfortable and homey. However, the most important characteristic of a gulet is its romantic and traditional atmosphere that will make you feel like you’re travelling in time.

Private gulet charter vs cabin gulet charter
As it was already mentioned, if you decide to charter a gulet, you can choose between a private gulet charter and a cabin gulet charter. If you’re on a budget and you’re planning on spending your holidays solo, with your partner or a smaller group of friends, it is recommended you charter a cabin (it can easily fit 2-4 people). A cabin gulet charter includes accommodation (single, double, triple), breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the use of sun decks.
This type of charter is perfect for adventurists who like visiting beautiful destinations and making new friends from all around the world. However, if you wish to go all out, you can charter an entire gulet. When chartering a private gulet, you have a few categories to choose from. The first one is a standard category gulet, i.e. a classic boat with or without air conditioning. This type of gulet usually offers a cabin charter. Superior gulets are air-conditioned boats and they are bigger, more comfortable and generally offer more space in comparison to a standard gulet. Luxury gulets are the most requested in terms of chartering - they offer the highest level of comfort and luxury, as well as the best service.
Private gulet charter is extremely popular among vacationists from all around the world. It is a great option if you have a large group of friends or a lot of relatives since you’ll have the entire boat at your disposal. When chartering a private gulet, you can choose the type of boat, the sailing route and services on board. Don’t forget that the boat is fully crewed which means you won’t have to do anything, besides relaxing. The professional crew consisting of a skipper and a cook will make sure you have the time of your life. Enjoy sailing with your friends or family, organize parties out in the open and have a dream holiday tailored to your group desires.

Luxury gulet charter
As listed above, there are several types of gulets to consider when chartering. However, two types are the most popular - a standard gulet that has the best rental price and a luxury gulet that is the most requested. When comparing the two, we can think of a 3 and a 5-star hotel. A standard gulet, that has the accommodation of a 3-star hotel, is a traditional wooden gulet that offers cabins with private bathrooms, a space for the crew, as well as a sun deck. It is also suitable for a cabin charter.
On the other side, chartering a luxury gulet is the best way to experience private cruising. If you want to enjoy the luxury of a 5-star hotel while sailing the most beautiful seas, opt for a luxury gulet. You can, depending on the number of people, choose the boat size. Choose a small gulet if you are travelling with your partner or a big one if you have a large group of friends, a family gathering or an event to celebrate.
A luxury gulet offers you the best service, professional crew, exquisite meals and lots of entertainment onboard. Other than that, you have a beautifully decorated interior that includes 4 to 7 cabins with single or double beds and private bathrooms, as well as a large seating/dining area with a galley. On deck, you can find more settees and a jacuzzi for your pleasure. Enjoy wine sipping with your better half, practice water sports with your kids, watch amazing sunsets and sunrises in the most beautiful sailing destinations – all onboard your luxury gulet.
