Despite divided opinions on catamarans, their value for money, their stability, sailing abilities and the level of equipment, everybody agrees that sailing a catamaran provides a special feeling.
Founded in 1984 and now belonging to mighty Beneteau group, Lagoon Catamarans specialized in the production of multihulls. Lagoon 400 is a serious product developed in order to satisfy the demands of luxury sailing in terms both charter business and private owners. The concept of Lagoon 400, therefore, provides large and spacious areas for accommodation in large cockpit, below the hardtop roof where helmsman finds his command position.
Furthermore, the area in front of a saloon, aft to the net between the hulls also provides enough space to comfortably accommodate few people for relaxed sitting or sunbathing. The interior is usually divided into four double cabins each equipped with its own shower and toilet. The deck gear is organized in a manner to divide helmsman from the rest of the crew, providing the skipper full autonomy of steering and sails control – all important winches and lines are positioned around the helm as well as the anchor winch commands.
At the same time, extra space is free to be used for the crew so in many versions the cockpit is equipped with a large table and external fridge or cool box. The interior hides a spacious and very well lit and ventilated galley, chart table and living room equipped with the sofa and small table. In the case of bad weather, small table from the saloon and the large table from the cockpit could be swapped so the dinner can be served in the saloon. Furthermore, the same foldable saloon table could be turned into an extra bed in case front bow cabins are not enough to accommodate the skipper and the hostess.
The galley is equipped with lots of compartments which can be used to store the provision along with cooker and stove, microwave oven, dishwasher, ice maker or air conditioner; depending on the version and the purpose of the catamaran. Despite her rather small size – 11.96 m LOA and 7.24 m beam; Lagoon 400 seems to be larger than she is. She also sails fairly well although her boom is positioned pretty high – above the head of the helmsman, almost at the middle of the mast.
There is a fair option to charter such vessel under very favorable conditions hiding within the offer of SailingEurope Charter base in Croatia; in Rogač on the island of Šolta. Lagoon 400 is yours to discover along with all advantages of chartering a sailing yacht at the island base.
