How Sausage and Cheese Met in a Salad Instead of a Sandwich

I would like to share with you the idea for a nice and delicious salad. It is a typical Italian and Mediterranean salad since the major flavors come from mortadella sausage and mozzarella cheese. As Italian as it gets!

All ingredients you are going to need are cherry tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, mortadella, salt and pepper, virgin olive oil, fresh basil leaves and balsamic vinegar. First of all, cut cherry tomatoes in half and put them in a bowl.

Cut mozzarella and mortadella in small cubes and put them on top of the cut tomatoes. Cut tightly fresh basil leaves and stir them with virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar in a cup. Pour the dressing over the ingredients in a bowl and mix it all together.

Add ground salt and black pepper according to your taste – and the salad is ready to be served either for lunch or dinner.

This salad is perfect as a light lunch during your swim break in a hidden cove, prepared in just a few moments while other crew member enjoy exploring the surroundings. It is extra delicious if eaten just after a nice swim – while you are still wet, sitting at the stern with your feet in the sea.

Very similar variant to this salad is called Caprese Salad or originally Italian Insalata Caprese – salad in the style of Capri, famous Italian island in Tyrrhenian Sea.

Tomatoes for Caprese can be bigger and should be sliced. Arrange tomato slices on a plate and cut mozzarella in slices too. Put mozzarella slices between tomato slices and place one small fresh basil leaf on each mozzarella slice.

Season the salad with virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar cream and ground salt and black pepper. No mortadella this time.Caprese salad is commonly served as a starter of a nice dinner.

Buon appetito!

I wish you a calm sea, a fine wind and a strong mast!
